The fabric may feel stiff right out of the bag, but will soften with wear and washing. Our 'best practice' for cleaning these shirts is to hand wash cold and hang to dry. If this is not possible, please turn the shirt inside out, wash cold on a delicate cycle and hang to dry. Heat and excessive agitation during washing or drying may lead to premature fading of the print because the top of the fabric becomes 'scuffed'.

Why not pattern matched across the placket and pocket?

I adore this pattern but am disappointed that it is not matched across the placket and pocket. Pattern matching traditionally requires a tad more fabric because the layout is not as tight, but the result is so much more desirable! This is all computerized now (right?), so surely the pattern could be printed on the fabric to optimize cutting with minimum wasted fabric.

Hello! We don't pattern match across the front because it actually does produce a lot more waste :) There are certain production methods (usually you see them for polyester fabric) where the pattern is printed onto templates and this allows for close pattern matching. Our fabric is printed as a big roll, and then cut from there. trying to match every garment would inherently waste big patches of fabric as you go.

I hope you enjoy the shirt anyway though!!

At long last I got my wish of MORE GINGKO!
My first purchases of Morning Witch were the polyester button downs of the Monstera Forest, Mushroom Galore, and Purple Moths. The Gingko tree is in my top three, so when the patches and embroidered sets came out earlier I hoped for a full pattern. And HERE IT IS!
The pattern is beautiful, albeit the colors can be different to your screen (fair warning it’s usually on the consumer, so it’s not on MW here), but I love the blue and yellow theme here regardless.
Be forewarned though, this is NOT like the polyester shirts. The clothes all came with a warning paper about them not being pre-machine softened, and they are crisp and crunchy. Thankfully, if you hand wash with detergent and conditioner (warm NOT HOT, and cold) like you would wool - it really helps the linen relax.
I waited writing this review to see how it handles the machine as well, and like I expected - with such great seamstress work, fabric choice, and eye for longevity - the shirt has softened beautifully.
Linen is good because it doesn’t hold wrinkles long if you don’t have an iron!
